Our school librarian is Mrs Parr and our library assistant is Miss Berrow.
The library is committed to helping students reach their individual goals and become independent lifelong learners by:
• Encouraging a love of reading and learning
• Providing a quality stock of hard copy and online resources
• Promoting effective research skills
• Encouraging creativity across the curriculum through a range of writing and art projects

Using the Library

There are over 8000 books (both fiction and non-fiction) together with a selection of magazines, available for loan. Students may borrow up to two items at a time for up to four weeks. Loans may be extended on request.
There is also a Careers Library containing a multitude of resources including reference books and college prospectuses to take home, along with leaflets and advice sheets.
Student participation is always welcome and actively encouraged. Book requests, reviews and opinions in particular.
Other Activities
Chatterbooks- our book club for primary students runs from 3.00pm to 4.00pm every Tuesday.
Appleton Readers – our book club for secondary students meets every Monday during lunchtime.
Both groups take part in the Carnegie Shadowing Scheme an award for young people’s writing and illustration along with the Royal Society of Science Book Prize. We also work closely with The Reading Agency and The National Literacy Trust.
Creative Residencies
Our artist in residence is Chris Mould.

Chris is an award-winning writer and illustrator and works with students on a variety of cross curricular art-based activities.
Our writer in residence is Nik Perring.

Nik is an award- winning screenwriter and author and leads on creative writing initiatives in school.
Each year our students produce an anthology of writing and artwork. Students take part in creative sessions and choose and design their own anthology title and cover design.

The library also regularly hosts guest writers and illustrators as well as reading sessions for parents/carers and takes part in national literacy initiatives such as World Book Day, National Poetry Day and National Writing Day and the Young Poet Laureate Programme.
